Life Drawing

I recently joined one of the Life Drawing studios here in Dublin so I could get back into drawing after too long a break.  The drawing was done using black charcoal pencils on A3 paper (approx. one hour long pose).

"Geist" @ the IFTAs

Some amazing news! Giant Animation Studio's short animated film "Geist" won the IFTA Award in its category yesterday. I feel really lucky to have been given the chance to do a bit of animation on it. Check it out! (click on the link in the title)

Go Jetters

This is the sweet looking show I've been working on for the past few months in Boulder Media (a show done in collaboration with Giant Studio and BBC). It's a pre-school show in which the four Go Jetters and Ubercorn, a disco-dancing unicorn, travel the Globe together. They need to reach a famous landmark before it gets "glitched" by Grandmaster Glitch and his Grimbots.
It will air today 26 October on CBeebies (UK) at 17:20. Check it out!
For more info head over to their FB page: Go Jetters Facebook Page

Terry Pratchett's "The Duel"

An older project I've been fortunate to have worked on as a trainee animator. This amazing short written by the late Terry Pratchett (Discworld) was created and directed by Giant Animation as part of the Animation Hub 2012, a work experience programme set up for students to work on live projects. Animation Art Show 2014 Piece

This is my piece for this year's Animation Art Show. It's my take on both The Boxtrolls and the original story Here Be Monsters by Alan Snow. I hope you like it and feel free to drop a line about it. Also, if you want, you can pop over to the show and auction which will be held in Dublin in aid of Irish children's charities.
Details of the show:

Venue: Atrium Space at the Temple Bar Gallery + Studios on the weekend of the 17th of October with the art auction taking place on Sunday the 19th. All proceeds go to the Jack and Jill Foundation and the ISPCC.

Hill town Observatory

For some reasons I love hill towns and observatories, so here it is. I started with a pencil sketch and made some changes to the design as I started to block in the colors.

I tried to keep the palette limited and have the accent on the cable car. I wanted the painting to look like one of those old postcards.
I got inspired along the way by one of Ian McQue's ink sketches and one of Ralph McQuarries' illustrations (check Pinterest for his work). Maybe it's not the best composition or color scheme for it but I loved working on it.
